How the server host reads world data
The Open World Team
The server host reads your own copy of the game and nothing else. This entry explains why that is, and why we never redistribute game files.
Why the host needs your own copy
Every world needs the terrain, the object placement and the data tables the game ships with. The host does not include them and does not download them. It reads the files already on your machine, the same ones the game itself reads.
What is read, and never redistributed
- Terrain and region data, read once at startup.
- Object and spawn placement, read into memory.
- Game data tables, mapped on demand.
What happens when files are missing
The host refuses to start and names the exact file it expected. It never guesses and never falls back to a bundled copy, because there is none.
Your world is built from your files. We ship none of them.
